And when even was come, there came a rich man 57 from Arimathæa, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: this man went to Pilate, and asked for 58 the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded it to be given up. And Joseph took the body, and wrapped 59 it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new 60 tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed. And Mary Magdalene was there, and the 61 other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

Now on the morrow, which is the day after the 62 Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together unto Pilate, saying, Sir, we remem- 63 ber that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I rise again. Command therefore 64 that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest haply his disciples come and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead and the last error will be worse than the first. Pilate said 65 unto them, 2Ye have a guard: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. So they went, and made the 66 sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, the guard being with them.

Now late on the sabbath day, as it began to dawn 28 toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And behold, 2 there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled away the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was as 3 lightning, and his raiment white as snow and for fear 4 of him the watchers did quake, and became as dead
