§. 49. IF I ha'n't time to say all this Before receiving the Bread, I may read the reft After it. §. 5o. §. 51. A Commemoration to God the Father. BEHOLD, O Lord! the Sacrifice of th Everlafting Covenant; behold I lay before Thee the Lamb that takes away the Sins of the world, for his fake have mercy upon me, and take away the world of my fins, and grant me thy Peace. Is not thy foul in Him well pleas'd? Is not his Body as really in the Heavens as the fign of it was here in my hand? Hear, Good Lord! the cry of his Wounds. Let me prevail with Thee thro' the Virtue of his Sacrifice. Let me feel, yea, let all the World feel the power of his Interceffion. Deny me not, O Lord, feeing I bring thy Son with me. Hear thy Son, O Lord, tho' Thou wilt not hear me; and let me, and all

others know that He lives, and was dead, and that He is alive for evermore. Amen.

§. 52. Receiving Chrift as my Lord, and my Savior. THOU, O bleffed Savior Jefus, haft given me thy precious Body to be the food of my foul; and now, O God, I humbly prefent to Thee my Body and Soul, every Member and every Faculty, every Action and every Paffion; Enter into me, Bleffed Jefus, let no root of bitterness fpring up in my heart, but be Thou Lord of all my Faculties. Give me an Underftanding to know Thee; Wisdom and strength of spirit that I may digeft Thee in my heart by a holy Faith; fill me with all joy and peace in believing; let me abound in hope; be rooted and grounded in love; and indue me with thy Holy spirit that I may feed on thee by Faith, and grow up by th' increafe of God to a perfect man in Christ Jesus; and be filled with all the fulness of God. My beloved is mine and I am his. Oh my Lord! if Thou loveft me fo much, fulfill in me all the good pleasure of thy Goodness, and the work of Faith with power. Lord, I believe, help Thou my unbelief. How faift Thou that Thou loveft me, if I have no more Love unto Thee! no more Life from Thee! and if I be fo barren and unfruitful in good works? O my Lord, I take the boldness lovingly to complain to Thee, and expoftulate with Thee: Why am I fo dull and cold in thy fervice, fo unwilling to execute thy Commands, fo weak and unable againit the Enemies affaults? If Thou be with me, who can be against

against me? Surely the Lord God is my Sun and my Shield, the Lord will give grace and glory, and no good thing will He with-hold from them that walk uprightly. Thro' Thee I shall do valiantly, Thou shalt tread down all my Enemies. It is the Lord that performes all things for me. I can do all things thro' Christ which ftrengthens me. Lord, I feed upon thy Love, I lay hold upon thy Promises, and will take and eat These as well as the material part; Lord, inable me fo to do. Amen.

§. 53. An act of Love to my Brethren, when I fee the fame Bread given to others.

DID Chrift dy only for me? was his Body broken for my fake alone? are not other perfons as dear to Him as my felf? Have we not all eaten of the fame Loaf? are we not about to drink of the fame Cup? How shall I hate those whom my beloved loves? how shall I envy thofe to whom He is fo liberal? how shall I offend one of thefe for whom Chrift died? how shall I deny my help to him to whom my Lord has given Himfelf? O my Soul! haft thou not efpoufed the fame Loves with thy Blessed Lord? must not all his Friends be thine, now He is not ashamed to call 'em Brethren? Lord let 'em be in my bofom, let my Soul cleave unto 'em, let us keep the Unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Amen.

§. 54. IN cafe any time be left before the Min. ifter is coming towards me with the Cup, I may use the former Devotions of this Chapter which thro' want of time I omitted, if any; if I

none, I must joyn heartily in the Prayer which is made at the delivery of the Bread and wine to others. For this time, be it more or lefs, must not be spent in looking about, or in thinking of what I pleafe, but in holy A/pirations.

§. 55. ¶ The Minister that delivereth the Cup to any one, shall fay.

THE Bloud ofour Lord Jefus Chrift, which was shed for thee/ preserve thp Body and Soul unto eberlasting life. Brink this in remembrance that Chrift's Bloud was shed for thee/ and be thankful.

§. 56. When the Minifter is coming towards me with the Cup.

IT fuffices me not, Deareft Savior, to receive Thee in part only, for I must be wholly thine, and (bleẞed by thy Name) Thou art willing to be wholly mine alfo. Thou haft already given me thy holy Body to cleanfe my Nature, and now Thou art preparing thy precious Bloud to wash away my guilt. My fins have poured out every drop thereof, wherefore Thou prefenteft it to me by it felf, to show how truly Thou didft fuffer death for me. And now, O my Redeemer, Thou haft faid, this Cup is the communion of thy Bloud, and thy Truth is unquestionable, thy Power is infinite, and thy Love was fuch that Thou gavest thy heart's bloud for me. I will receive it therefore as the Bloud of th' everlasting covenant, the Seal of all the Promifes of thy holy Gospel: I have indeed (vile finner that I am) drunk in Iniquity like water; and therefore am unfit to tafte this Water of Life, and

yet I shall perifh without it, for I 'm all over defiled, and this is the Fountain which Thou haft opened to cleanse me; I am scorched with the flames of evil Lufts and unruly Paffions, and this is the cup which Thou haft provided to cool and refresh me: Lord, let me tafte, and my Soul fhall live; let me wafh in this Laver before I come to thy great Tribunal, fo fhall I be whiter than fnow. Amen.

§. 57. WHEN he is come to me with the Cup, I muft foftly fay after him,only changingthe Words, thee and thy, into me and my, and when he faies, Drink this, add before it, I will, taking it with my right hand, bare.

§. 58. In and after Drinking the Wine.

THE Remembrance of thy Bloud-shedding, O fwecteft Savior, is dear to me, I can never forget it, fince it was fpilt for my fake; and I owe my very Life to it. In all th' affection of an infinitely obliged heart, I humbly thank Thee for what Thou haft done and fuffer'd for me, and gladly consent to thofe Terms of Life and Mercy which were purchased for me thereby; and by thy Grace Iwill never wilfully yield hence-forward to do any thing that is unworthy offo great and ineftimable a Benefit. O Bleffed Jefu, I adore thy Love, and will ever love Thee above all things; and love and imbrace all my Brethren with open arms for thy fake; yea, and love my Enemies too, fince Thou requireft I shou'd do fo. And my heart's defire is, after this fort to fulfill thy Will in all things, and moft devoutly to adore thy glorious Goodness, and to show forth thy boundless Praife to my life's end. Amen. I 2
