I have been in the ministry twentythree years, President of the Home Missions for some time, and now I have the pleasure to preside over a grand University of learning. This week I have had the further honor and pleasure to preside over the highest ecclesiastical court of the Presbyterian denomination. pointment to this office. The terms in which your Society speak of me, and of my labors, are expressions of your generosity rather than of my own merit. They are prompted also by a warmth of your affection for Wales and all that is connected with it-the home of my parents as of yours, the cradle of song, the nursery of religion and patriotism.

Let me trust that in my new position I shall do nothing to weaken your confidence,

while I may be brought into closer relations with your Society and to its members. I am, gentlemen, with a grateful sense of your partiality and favor,

Yours very truly,

The attendance was fairly good, and the audience a highly appreciative one. Both Mr. Sauvage and his son received a most cordial reception, and the encores were many and enthusiastic. Mr. Sauvage is acknowledged to be an accomplished baritone singer, with a musical voice of great volume and range, well cultivated, and used with much taste and effect. Tonzo is wonderfully expert in handling the keys of the instrument, and undoubtedly he will make for himself a famous name and record in the musical world. The services of Prof. Courtney and his fair soprano and contralto singers also were highly appreciated by the audience. CORRESPONDENT.
