Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of 16 1 Or, simple Wolves : be ye therefore wise as serpents, and 1 harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver 17 you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you; yea and before governors and kings shall 18 ye be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, be not 19 anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak. For it is 20 not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you. And brother shall deliver up brother 21

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's 22 sake but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. But when they persecute you in this city, 23 flee into the next: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone through the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

A disciple is not above his master, nor a servant 24 above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he 25 be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house 5 Beelzebub, how 'much more shall they call them of his household! Fear 26 them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in the darkness, speak ye in the light: 27 and what ye hear in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops. And be not afraid of them which kill the body, 28 but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Now when John heard in the prison the works of 3 the Christ, he sent by his disciples, and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go your way and tell John the things which ye do hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached Or, the gospel 6 to them. At that season Jesus answered and said, I 1o thank 25 thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: yea, Father, 26 11 Or, that 11 for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight. 12 At that season Jesus went on the sabbath day through the cornfields; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck ears of corn, and to eat. 2 But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to 3 do upon the sabbath. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, 4 and they that were with him; how he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which Some it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them authorities 5 that were with him, but only for the priests? Or did eat. have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath day the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and 6 are guiltless? But I say unto you, that 'one greater Gr. a 7 than the temple is here. But if ye had known what thing. this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, ye 8 would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath.

9 And he departed thence, and went into their syna10 gogue and behold, a man having a withered hand. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on 11 the sabbath day? that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man shall there be of you, that shall have one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it 12 out? How much then is a man of more value than a

sheep! Wherefore it is lawful to do good on the sab13 bath day. Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored 14 whole, as the other. But the Pharisees went out, and took counsel against him, how they might destroy 15 him. And Jesus perceiving it withdrew from thence: 16 and many followed him; and he healed them all, and

Then was brought unto him 2 one possessed with a 22 devil, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the dumb man spake and saw. And all the mul- 23

titudes were amazed, and said, Is this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, 24 This man doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the 'devils. And knowing their thoughts 25 he said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: and if 26 Satan casteth out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand? And if I by 27 Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. But if I by the Spirit of God cast out 'devils, then is 28 the kingdom of God come upon you. Or how can 29 one enter into the house of the strong man, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. He that is not with me 30 is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. Therefore I say unto you, Every sin and 31 blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but the blasauthorities phemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. And 32 whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in that which is to come.
