PATENT LOCKS.

STRONG, SECURE, AND DURABLE,

Manufactured in India; and equal to the best English make while cheaper.

DAS & Co.,

Chitpur Lock Works, Calcutta, (Estd. 1879).

Superintendent of Canal Foundry & workshop, Roorkee:"......Have been duly examined by me. In my opinion both Locks are reasonably secure.........".

Master of the Mint, Bombay :—

"...... Of a very good description, being equal as regards strength to Chubbs' Locks of the same size.......

Superintendent of Stationery, Bombay:—

"...... I am to suggest that Government Officers may be authorized to obtain from Messrs. DAs & Co.......

[ocr errors]

Secretary to the Financial Commissioner, Burma :—

"......Strong and Durable, and decidedly superior to the cheap articles of European Manufacture usually met with in the bazaars..............

"Indian Engineering," Calcutta:

"......The articles turned out by Messrs. DAS & Co., are durable and strong, and for some years past have been supplied to several Public Offices under the Governments of India and Burma.......

"Rangoon Gazette ":

"......The workmanship is most creditable, and the best English Manufacturers need not be ashamed to have turned out such a secure and well finished Lock. If Messrs. DAS can turn out these Locks as cheaply as English Manufacturers, the latter will probably find their occupation give in India. ...........

"Bombay Educational Record," Poona :—

"Amidst the voluminous talk regarding the protection of Native Industries it is well to remember that an ounce of practice is worth a pound of theory,

Take again the Matter of Locks, The Government of Bombay have authorized the purchase of Chitpur Brass Padlocks of Messrs. DAS & Co., for all Government Offices. How many private persons and institutions recognize the duty of encouraging this enterprising Bengal firm in preference to purchasing imported articles? We have seen specimens of these and Brass Locks, quite agree with official report of the Superintendent of Stationery that "they are equal as regards strength, to Chubbs' Locks of the same size," whilst as regards price they are almost incredibly cheap. The two-inch Brass Padlock is Rs. 2 or less than an ordinary iron lock of good quality; and the quality and finish are unexceptionable. Bombay is clearly bound to patronize the Chitpur Locks until she can make equally good ones herself."
