TO YOU,

SISTERS IN AFFLICTION AND SUFFERING,

WHEREVER YE BE,

THESE GLEANINGS

ARE DEDICATED,

WITH THE PUREST SYMPATHY AND AFFECTION,

BY

FANNY H. HENSLOWE.

LITERARY GLEANINGS.

DAYBREAK.

THE summer's morn is cool and bright,
Each star has hid its sparkling ray,

The moon is fading, lost in light,

Her silvery reign has passed away!
The winds in gentle whispers tell
Where health, and joy, and beauty dwell,
And fluttering by on airy wing,

Their freshest, sweetest tribute bring;
While nature's choir, around, above,
Sings one wild chorus-life and love!
And brightly o'er the horizon beaming-
Oh, that his glory might be told!
The glowing sun, all lightly streaming
Rich floods of pure, ethereal gold!
He rises, shining in his might,
Exulting in his path of light;

As though he joyed a world so fair

Still claimed and loved his fostering care!
