PREFACE.

ALTHOUGH the Infant System has been in operation several years, no report has yet been given of its general reception and effect.

To supply this deficiency the present volume was prepared, with the earnest hope that it may be instrumental in correcting existing errors, and in urging a more extensive adoption of the plans it illustrates.

A friend has kindly undertaken the arrangement of the facts and observations it contains, for which I have not sufficient leisure.
