Accounts from Lisbon, dated May 23d, state that there has been a violent fhock of an earthquake in the neighbourhood of Oporto and Vianna. It happened about midnight, between the 1st, and 2d of this month; and on Friday last the 17th instant, a very smart fhock was felt there at about half after ten o'clock at night. This alarming circumstance is attributed to the uncommon drynefs of the late winter and spring. Accounts have been received at the Cape of Good Hope, from the indefatigable M. Vaillant, who is now on his fourth expedition into the interior parts of Africa. When last heard of, he was in Caffraria. Dumourier, the French General, lately arrived in London, and immediate. ly sent notice of it in a letter to Lord GRENVILLE, which was delivered by his valet de chambre and aid de camp, BABTISTE. To this letter Lord GRENVILLE returned for answer on Sunday last,"That he trusted General DUMOURIER would himself he aware of the inconveniency which his stay here might occasion, and that he recommended that he should depart the conntry as soon as possible." In consequence of this hint, DUMOURIER will leave London immediately. He came over under a pafsport, from Prince CHARLES, the Governor of the Austrian Netherlands, and during his stay in London, lodged at a French hatter's in Piccadilly.-He afsumed the name Lacaste.
