"CHRIST! I am Christ's! and let the name suffice you, Ay, for me too He greatly hath sufficed;

Lo with no winning words I would entice you,
Paul has no honour and no friend but Christ.

Yea thro' life, death, thro' sorrow and thro' sinning
He shall suffice me, for He hath sufficed;
Christ is the end, for Christ is the beginning,

Christ the beginning, for the end is Christ."

PREFACE.

HIS Book has been written in the hope that it may serve to interest the young, and

those who have but little time for reading, in the Life and Writings of S. Paul; and thus serve as an introduction to the many more valuable and important works on the same subject.

The writer wishes to express his acknowledgements of the abundant help he has received from Dr. Farrar's Life and Work of S. Paul, Conybeare and Howson's well-known work on the same subjects, from Professor Westcott's "Historic Faith," and last, and above all, from "The Unity of the New Testament" and "The Epistle to the Hebrews" by the late Rev. F. D. Maurice.

Lent 1885.
