also in the iniquities of their fathers shall 40 they pine away with them. If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have 41 walked contrary unto me; and that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment 42 of their iniquity: then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember 43 the land. The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they despised my judgements, and because their soul ab44 horred my statutes. And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the 45 Lord their God. But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of

Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their god: I am the Lord.

These are the statutes and judgements and laws, which the Lord made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die.-John xi, 25-26.

"THEREFORE BE YE ALSO READY."

MATTHEW XXIV.

37 And as were the days of Noah, so shall be 38 the coming of the Son of man. For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah en39 tered into the ark, and they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall be the coming of the Son of man. 40 Then shall two men be in the field; one is 41 taken, and one is left: two women shall be grinding at the mill; one is taken, and one

42 is left. Watch therefore: for ye know not 43 on what day your Lord cometh. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in an hour that ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is the faithful and wise servant,

whom his lord hath set over his household, to give them their food in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when 47 he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say

unto you, that he will set him over all that 48 he hath. But if that evil servant shall say 49 in his heart, My lord tarrieth; and shall be

gin to beat his fellow-servants, and shall eat 50 and drink with the drunken; the lord of that

servant shall come in a day when he expect51 eth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying, Write, Blessed are the dead, which die in the

THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED.
PSALM I.

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,

2

Nor standeth in the way of sinners,

Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord;

And in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,

That bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
His leaf also shall not wither;

And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so:

5

But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement,

Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteo 6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

SELF DENIAL.

LUKE IX.

And he said unto all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and 24 take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, 25 the same shall save it. For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose 26 or forfeit his own self? For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in his own glory, and the glory of 27 the Father, and of the holy angels. But I tell you of a truth, There be some of them that stand here, which shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
