'God. The law and the prophets were until John; since 16 'then the kingdom of God is preached, and every one 'presseth into it. And it is easier for the heavens and 17 'earth to pass away, than one tittle of the law to fail. 'Whoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, 18 'committeth adultery; and whoever marrieth her that is 'put away from a husband, committeth adultery. Now 19 'there was a certain rich man, who wore purple and linen, 'faring sumptuously every day; and there was a certain 'poor man named Lazarus, who lay at his porch, full of ulcers, and wishing to be fed with the crumbs which 21 'fell from the rich man's table; moreover the dogs came 'and licked his ulcers. And it came to pass, that the 'poor man died, and he was carried by the angels into 'Abraham's bosom; the rich man also died and was 'buried. And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in 23 'torments; and he seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus 'in his bosom. And he cried out, and said; Father 24 'Abraham, have pity on me, and send Lazarus, that he 'may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my 'tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham 25 'said; Child, remember that thou in thy life time re'ceivedst thy good things, and in like wise Lazarus evil 'things; but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 'And beside all this, between us and you there is a great 26 'gulf fixed; so that they who wish to pass from hence to 'you cannot; nor can they pass to us from thence. Then 27 'he said; I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldst 'send him to my father's house; for I have five brethren; 28 'that he may bear witness to them, lest they also come 'into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him; 29 "They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them. 'And he said; Nay, father Abraham; but if one went to 30 'them from the dead they will repent. And he said unto 31 "him; If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither 'will they be persuaded if one rose from the dead.'

Then said he unto his disciples; 'It is impossible but 'that sins come; but alas for him through whom they 'come. It were better for him that an upper millstone were 'hanged about his neck, and cast into the sea, than that 'he should make one of these little ones sin. Take heed 'to yourselves. And if thy brother trespass against thee,

4 'rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he 'trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven 'times in a day turn again, saying, I repent; thou shalt 5 'forgive him.' And the apostles said to the Lord; 6 'Increase our faith.' And the Lord said; 'If ye had 'faith as a grain of mustard, ye might say to this sycamine tree; Be thou rooted out, and be thou planted in 'the sea; and it would obey you. But which of you, 'having a slave ploughing or feeding cattle, will say unto 'him as he cometh in from the field, Go-at once; and lie 8 'down to meat? But will he not say to him; Make 'ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve 'me while I eat and drink; and afterwards thou shalt eat 9 'and drink thyself? Doth he feel thankful to that slave 10 because he did what was commanded? I think not. So ' also ye, when ye shall have done all that is commanded 'you, say; We are unprofitable slaves; we have done 'what was our duty to do.'

And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he 12 passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And

as he entered a certain village, there met him ten men 13 that were lepers, who stood afar off. And they raised 14 a cry, saying; 'Jesus, Master, have pity on us.' And when he saw, he said to them; Go, show yourselves to 'the priests.' And it came to pass, that as they went 15 they were cleansed. And one of them, seeing that he

was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified 16 God; and he fell on his face at his feet, thanking him; 17 and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said;

'Were not the ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 'Were none found to return and give glory to God, save 19 this foreigner?' And he said unto him; Arise, go thy 'way, thy faith hath healed thee.'

Being asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God was coming, he answered them, and said; 'The 21 'kingdom of God cometh not with observation; nor will 'they say; Lo, here; or; Lo, there; for behold, the 22 'kingdom of God is within you.' And he said unto the disciples; Days will come, when ye will desire to see one 'of the days of the Son of man; and ye will not see it. 23 And they will say unto you; Lo, here; or; Lo, there; 24 'go not out, nor follow them. For as the lightning, that

'flasheth from one part under heaven, shineth to the 'other part under heaven; so will the Son of man be in 'his day. But first he must suffer many things, and be 25 'rejected by this generation. And as it was in the days 26 'of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of 'man. They ate, they drank, they married, they were 27 'given in marriage, till the day that Noah entered the 'ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. In 28 'like manner also as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, 'they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they 'builded; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it 29 'rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed 'them all. Thus will it be on the day that the Son of 30 man is revealed. On that day, he that shall be upon 31 'the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not come down to take them; and he that is in the field in 'like manner let him not turn back. Remember Lot's 32 'wife. Whoever shall seek to save his life, will lose it; 33 and whoever shall lose it, will keep it alive. I tell you, 34 ' in that night there will be two men on one bed; one will 'be taken, and the other will be left. Two women will 35 'be grinding together; one will be taken, and the other 'will be left.' And they answer and say unto him; 37 'Where, Lord?' And he said unto them; 'Wherever 'the body is, there will the eagles be gathered together.'

And he spake a parable unto them, how that they ought always to pray, and not to faint; saying; 'There was in a certain city a judge, who feared not God, nor 'regarded man. And there was a widow in that city; 3 'and she came to him, saying; Avenge me of my ad'versary. And he would not for a while; but afterwards 'he said to himself; Though I fear not God, nor regard 'man; yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge 'her; lest at last by her coming she weary me.' And the Lord said; Hear what the unjust judge saith. And will 'not God avenge his own chosen ones, who cry unto him day and night, though long bearing with them? I tell 'you that he will avenge them speedily. But when the 'Son of man cometh will he find faith upon earth?' And he spake also this parable about some that trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised the rest; Two men went up into the temple to pray; one 10

11 'a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer. The Pharisee 'stood by himself and prayed thus; God, I thank thee 'that I am not as other men, grasping, unrighteous, adul12 'terers, or even as this tax-gatherer. I fast twice a week, 13 'I give tithe of all that I get. And the tax-gatherer, stand'ing afar off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven; 'but smote upon his breast, saying; God, be merciful to 14 'me a sinner. I tell you this man went down to his house 'justified rather than the other; for every one that ex'alteth himself will be humbled; and he that humbleth 'himself will be exalted.'

And they brought unto him also infants, that he might 16 touch them; but the disciples seeing rebuked them. But Jesus called them and said; 'Suffer the children to come 'unto me, and forbid them not; for unto such belongeth 17 'the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whoever 'shall not receive the kingdom of God as a child, will 'not enter therein.'

And a certain ruler asked him, saying; 'Good Teacher, 19 'what shall I do to inherit eternal life?' And Jesus said unto him; Why callest thou me good? Nobody is good, 20 'save one, that is God. Thou knowest the command'ments; Do not commit adultery; Do not kill; Do not 'steal; Do not bear false witness; Honour thy father and 21 'thy mother. And he said; 'All these I have kept from 22 'my youth up.' And Jesus hearing this, said unto him; 'Yet lackest thou one thing; sell all that thou hast, and 'give among the poor, and thou wilt have treasure in 23 'heaven; and come, follow me.' And when he heard this, 24 he was very sorrowful; for he was very rich. And Jesus, seeing that he was very sorrowful, said; 'How hardly will 'they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to enter through a needle's 'eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of 26 God.' And they that heard said; Who then can be 27 'saved?' And he said; "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.' And Peter said; 'Lo, 29 we have left everything, and followed thee.' And he said unto them; Verily I say unto you, that there is no one that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive much more at this time, and in the age to come life everlasting.'

Then he took the twelve aside, and said unto them; 31 'Behold we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that 'have been written through the prophets concerning the 'Son of man will be fulfilled. For he will be delivered 32 'up to the Gentiles, and will be mocked, and reviled, and 'spit upon; and they will scourge him, and put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.' And 34 they understood none of these things; and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things that were spoken.

And it came to pass, that as he came nigh to Jericho a certain blind man was sitting by the way side begging; and hearing a crowd pass by, he asked what it was. And 36 37 they told him that Jesus the Nazarite was passing by. And he cried out, saying; 'Jesus, son of David, have 38 'pity on me.' And they that went before rebuked him, 39 that he should hold his peace; but he cried out the more; 'Son of David, have pity on me.' And Jesus stood, and 40 ordered him to be led unto him; and when he was come near, he asked him, saying; 'What wilt thou that I 41 'shall do unto thee?' And he said; 'Lord, that I may

receive my sight.' And Jesus said unto him; 'Receive 42 thy sight; thy faith hath healed thee.' And immediately 43 he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people saw it, and gave praise to God.

And he entered and was passing through Jericho. And behold, there was a man named Zacchæus, and he was a chief tax-gatherer, and he was rich. And he sought to see Jesus, who he was; and could not for the crowd, for he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up a sycamore-tree to see him; for he was to pass that way. And as Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him; 'Zacchæus, 'make haste, and come down; for to-day I must abide ' in thy house.' And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And all that saw it murmured, saying; ' He is gone to lodge with a sinful man.' And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord; 'Behold, 'Lord, the half of my goods I give unto the poor; and 'if in aught I have wronged any one, I restore it four'fold.' And Jesus said of him; 'To-day is salvation come unto this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of
