Weary Souls invited to Rest. 1 COME, weary soul, with sins distrest, The Saviour offers heavenly rest; The kind, the gracious call obey, And cast your gloomy fears away. 2 Oppress'd with guilt, a painful load, O come, and spread your woes abroad; Divine compassion, mighty love, Will all the painful load reinove. 3 Here mercy's boundless ocean flows, To cleanse your guilt, and heal your woes, Pardon and life, and endless peace How rich the gift! how free the grace! 4 Lord, we accept with thankful heart, The hope thy gracious words impart; We come with trembling, yet rejoice, And bless the kind inviting voice. 5 Dear Saviour, let thy pow'rful love Confirm our faith, our fears remove, And sweetly influence ev'ry breast, And guide us to eternal rest. 4. The Saviour's Invitation. 1 THE Saviour calls, let ev'ry ear Attend the heav'nly sound; Ye doubting souls, dismiss your fear, Hope smiles reviving round. 2 For ev'ry thirsty, longing heart, And life and health, and bliss impart, 3 Here springs of sacred pleasure rise, (Immortal fountain! full supplies!) 4 Ye sinners, come, 'tis mercy's voice; i Mercy invites to heav'nly joys, 5. Dear Saviour, draw reluctant hearts, And take the bliss thy love imparts, 5. The Same. 1 YE weary wanderers, draw near, To bear thy suff'rings on my heart, Nor let me from this vision part; Nature and creature both resign; 6. At the opening of Worship. 1 NOW may the Spirit's holy fire, Descending from above, His waiting family inspire With joy, and peace, and love! 3 'Wake, heav'nly Wind, arise, and come, 5 Hasten the restitution-day, Which now corruption shrouds, 7. The Same. 1 ONCE more we come before our God, Once more his blessing ask; may not duty seem a load, Nos worship prove a task! 2 Father, thy quick'ning Spirit send To make our waiting minds attend, Hoard up the precious treasure there, 4 To seek thee all our hearts dispose; And let the seed thy servant sows 5 Bid the refreshing North-wind 'wake 6 Revive the parch'd with heav'nly show'rs, The cold with warmth divine; And as the benefit is ours, 8. The Same. 1 LORD, we come before thee now, At thy feet we humbly bow: O! do not our suit disdain, Shall we seek thee, Lord, in vain! 2 Lord, on thee our souls depend, In compassion now descend, Fill our hearts with thy rich grace, Tune our lips to sing thy praise. 3 In thine own appointed way, Now we seek thee, here we stay: Lord, we know not how to go, Till a blessing thou bestow. 4 Send some message from thy word, That may joy and peace afford; Let thy Spirit now impart Full salvation to each heart. 5 Comfort those who weep Let the time of joy return; Those that are cast down, lift up; Make them strong in faith and hope! 6 Grant that all may seek, and find Thee a gracious God and kind; Heal the sick, the captive free: Let us all rejoice in thee! and mourn, |
