[blocks in formation]

TO SUBSCRIBERS AND CORRESPONDENTS.

Very much obliged to " KATE," for her verses, and also for her letter.

By inserting "Words for a Song," we shall offer an agreeable task to amateurs, or to professional composers.

Truly sorry are we for the painful circumstances which deprived us of the ever kind and ready aid of our friend at "Abbey Cottage." It will afford us sincere pleasure to hear of his recovery.

Though in type, the appearance of "Some Passages from the Autobiography of a Harp" is unavoidably postponed.

Mr. HEWITT's inclosure arrived too late for notice this month.

Amongst our prose compositions, intended for insertion, are the following::-"The Bride of the Sea"-" Thamor, the Jewess of Fez (from the Journal of a Traveller)”— "The Castle-Builders of Padua"-and " The Contrabandistas of the Trocha."

Accepted, also, in verse:-" The Departed One," by "OMEGA ;"" On Music," by "S. E. ;" and "The Indian Girl's Song," and "Remembrances," by “ F. A.”

To what must we attribute the long silence of " Mrs. H.—?”

To say that "The Man without a Soul" is deficient in "esprit," may be deemed an "emeraldism,” vulgus, a" bull;" but his father will understand us.

From necessity, numerous poetical favours stand over.

"J. F." was one day too late; but he shall be attended to next month.
