TO SUBSCRIBERS AND CORRESPONDENTS. FROM the copious analytical review of nearly all the Annuals, which, with great difficulty, we are enabled to present in this month's LA BELLE ASSEMBLEE, our readers-country readers especially-will, we trust, find their choice materially assisted. The pressure of this review compels us, reluctantly, to postpone numerous contributions, prose and verse; amongst others, "Some Passages from the Autobiography of a Harp." Amongst many papers on our table, yet unread, are the following:-" Edwin, the Bretwalda, an Anglo-Saxon Tale," by. "S. F. J. ;"-" The Hunting in Dumfermline;" -" The Disinterment ;"—" The Burning at Caithness," &c. &c. Two " Sonnets:"-To the Sun, from the Italian of Bernardo Tasso ;" and, "I saw thee Blooming, full of Youthful Grace"-by " Miss AGNES STRICKLAND," are on our list of poetic acceptances. We most sincerely congratulate our obliging friend, the author of " The Crowned of the Isles," on his recovery. We know not how either to express our thanks for his kind attention, or our regret at the impossibility of finding room for his favour; and, unfortunately, in another month, the subject will be a "by-gone affair.” Our Correspondent at Blackheath shall hear from us, on the subject of his letter. |
