This Society was established in 1862 to supply Spinal Supports, Leg Instruments, Trusses, Elastic Stockings, Artificial Limbs, etc., and every other description of mechanical support to the Poor, without limit as to locality or disease. Water-Beds and Invalid Carriages are lent to the Afflicted. Since the commencement of the Society it has supplied

463,676 APPLIANCES

to the poor. It provides against imposition by requiring the Certificate of a Surgeon in each case. By special grants it ensures that every deserving applicant shall receive prompt assistance. 34,411 Appliances given during the Year ending September, 1904.
