I did not see our venerable Bro. James A. Butler, while in Aberdeen and Columbus, but I heard from him. He is still in the field battling for the Lord, with the armor of truth on, doing good service in the cause. The prospects in this State are better than they were formerly. The religious community are more disposed to hear us than formerly. In Memphis, Tenn., I was invited by one of the Baptist congregations to speak for them, which I did. I have had a large and attentive hearing in this place and in Columbus, and it is believed that much prejudice has been removed from the public mind in these places. We have many noble and zealous brethren in this State. I found near this place one of my nephews, from Virginia, and my brother's widow, besides many of my early associates and schoolmates, and my father's old neighbors from Lunenburg and Mecklenburg counties, Va. We had a pleasant and a joyful meeting, after thirty years' absence. I shall leave this place next week for Jackson, Miss., where I shall spend a few weeks. I desire to spend my last days in the cause in which I spent my youth and manhood, and which cost our Redeemer his life, and in which so many great and good persons have been martyrs or witnesses. May we all be faithful till death, that we may receive a wreath of immortality, is the prayer of J. CREATH, Jr.

ILLINOIS.-Bro. G. W. Minier, of Mackinaw, under date of October 26th, says: "I have just concluded a meeting at Sugar Creek, Logan county, at which 21 made the confession of the Saviour's name, and were buried with him by immersion. At this meeting we were assisted by our estimable Bro. W. Bowles, whose clear, unvarnished statement of the facts of the gospel, and sympathetic enforcement, render him one of the ablest evangelists. At a meeting two weeks previous, in Hittle's Grove, in Tazewell county, assisted by Bros. Davenport and Ryan, 11 made the confession and 10 were immersed. On his way home, Bro. D. spoke in our meeting-house, and 1 noble young man was added to the Lord. Much good is doing in this part of Illinois. I can now recollect 41 additions within a short time, at the various meetings I have attended."

ALABAMA.-Bro. Dr. W. F. Kight, of Pinelevel, August 25th, writes as follows: "We have just closed a co-operation meeting at Fair Prospect, Montgomery county, where 15 noble souls made the good confession and were immersed. Bro. R. Graham and I had with us our beloved brother P. B. Lawson, from Marion. We had a good meeting, and, to all appearances, will have more. At this meeting B. Hilliard, Bishop of Fair Prospect church was called to evangelize, my services being required in another place; at which place I shall labor, if put forth by our central co-operation, in con nection with this district co-operation. The cause is looking up-a better day, I trust, is not far hence. May the Lord bless our labors!""

NEW YORK.-Bro. Julius Stevens, of Buffalo, writes under date of October 22d: "Within three weeks 3 persons have been added by baptism to the little band of disciples in West Seneca, (near Buffalo,) and there are still others almost persuaded to obey the Lord."

CANADA WEST.-Bro. James Black, writing from Esquising, October 19th, says: "Bro. Anderson and myself have been laboring for the brethren for one month back, and we have been so honored as to add 15 to the number of the Disciples. In company with Elder Isaac Brown, of New York, we held a meeting with the Wainfleet Church, where 7 more were added "

PENNSYLVANIA. Bros. Berry and Burgess, students of Bethany College, lately held a protracted meeting at West Middletown; during which, 15 persons made the good confession and were immersed, and I reclaimed. Three of them were members of the Methodist church. All of them were persons in the strength of life; and we trust, through the grace of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, will remain steadfast in the faith, and finally receive the rich inheritance promised to the servants of God.

A WORD TO SUBSCRIBERS.

In the November number, we sent to each subscriber in arrears a statement of his account as it appeared on our books. This has produced, we are happy to state, and is still producing, good results, in enabling each one to ascertain for himself the exact amount of his indebtedness, and affording us an opportunity of correcting errors and supplying omissions. In a business like ours, conducted, as it is, through numerous agents, it must be expected that many errors and inaccuracies will happen in the course of a year. The wonder is, indeed, that it has been managed so correctly.

We desire, then, explicitly to state, that it is a primary object with us in sending accounts, to ascertain and finally adjust all differences and discrepancies between ourselves and subscribers.

Let no one, therefore, take offence, should any error be detected, but let him, as soon as convenient, send us per mail a plain statement, with any explanatory circumstances that may occur to him, and he may rest assured that all will be set right here.

CLUBS.

ALREADY the clubs have commenced coming in for 1853. This is as it should be. We like to see an early beginning made, so that we may have some idea of the number needed for next volume. We trust that as many as possible will avail themselves of our low rates, and that the list will rapidly increase. Brethren and friends, lend us your aid in procuring tea thousand readers. We will thus be greatly strengthened, and furnished with an additional incentive to make the Harbinger a welcome visiter to A. C. young and old.

TO A CHILD.

Never, my child, forget to pray,
Whate'er the business of the day;
If happy dreams have blessed thy sleep,
If startling fears have made thee weep,
With holy thoughts begin the day,
And ne'er, my child, forget to pray.

Pray Him, by whom the birds are fed,
To give to thee thy daily bread;
If wealth her bounty should bestow,
Praise Him from whom all blessings flow;
If He who gave should take away,
O ne'er, my child, forget to pray.

The time will come when thou wilt miss
A father's and a mother's kiss;

And then, my child, perchance you'll see
Some who in prayer ne'er bend the knee;
From such examples turn away,
And ne'er, my child, forget to pray.
