Stocks, Produce and Commodities. PRICES OF STOCKS. The new home of the New York Stock Exchange in Wall and Broad streets will be one of the finest buildings in the financial section of the city. It is being erected at the cost of about $1,500,000, and in its construction a number of difficult engineering problems are being solved, to be of use in the construction of other buildings in that part of town. The structure is four stories high, built largely of white marble, and architecturally beautiful outside and in. The main entrance is on Broad street, from which the board room and all the rooms more commonly used will be reached. The building is to be lighted by electricity, generated by the Exchange's own plant, and a complete system of refrigeration, for keeping the interior air at an even temperature in Summer, will be installed. During the work on the new building the Exchange has met in the Produce Exchange Building. Prices of seats in the Stock Exchange took an upward tendency during 1902. The highest amount ever given for a seat on 'Change was $80,000, paid on December 26, 1901. Between September, 1901, and May. 1902, the prices have ranged as follows: September 12, $62,000; September 20, $65,000; December 5, $71,000: December 22, $75,000; December 26, $80,000; February 14, 1902, $70,000; March 2, $60,000; April 30, $70,000. The original cost of a seat was $400. The initiation fee on the Exchange is $1,000. In 1902 the Listing Committee of the Stock Exchange admitted to the list the 4 per cent certificates of rente of the Imperial Russian Government, taking in this way the first step toward establishing a foreign bond department. The issue is 2,310,000,000 roubles, equivalent to $1,188,495,000. The Listing Committee ruled that for the purpose of dealing in these bonds two roubles should be considered the equivalent of one dollar.
