xhortations to brotherly love.

The the witneges.

9 If we receive the witness of men, the wit nets of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath teftified of his son.

Chap. v. 8 There is no fear in love; but perfect e cafteth out fear: becaufe fear hath torHe that feareth is not made perfect love. 19 We love him, because he firft loved us. 20 If a man fay, I love God, and hateth s brother, he is a liar; for he that loveth t his brother whom he hath feen, how can e love God whom he hath not feen? 21 And this commandment have we from im, That he who loveth God love his broher also.

CHAP. V.

He that loveth God, loveth his children, and kcepeth his commandments; 3 which to the faithful are light, and not grievous. 9 Jefus is the Son of God able to fave us, 14 and to bear our prayers which we make for ourfelves and for others.

10 He that believeth on the Son of God hati: the witnefs in himself: he that believ eth not God hath made him a liar; because he believed not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not lite.

13 Thefe things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14 And this is the confidence that we have to his will, he heareth us:

WHOSOEVER believeth that Jefus is the in him, that, if we ask any thing according

Chrift is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat ioveth him alfo that is begotten of him.

a By this we know that we love the chil. dren of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatfoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that jefus is the Son of God?

6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jefus Chrift; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Groft and these three are one.

& And there are three that bear witnefs in earth, the fpirit, and the water, and the blood: and thefe three agree in one.

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatfoever we atk, we know that we have the pe titions that we defired of him.

16 If any man fee his brother fin a fin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he fhall give him life for them that fin not unto death. There is a fin unto death: I do nct fay that he shall pray for it.

17 All unrighteoufnefs is fin: and there is a fin not unto death.

18 We know that whofoever is born of God finneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickednefs.

20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son jefus Chrift. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

The Second Epiftle of JOHN.

He exhorteth a certain honourable matron, with her children, to perfemere in Chrißian vove and belief, & left they lose the reward of their former profefton; to and to have nothing to do with feducers.

Helder unto the elect lady and her chilTH dren, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but alfo all they that have known the truth;

2 For the truth's fake, which dwelleth in us, and thall be with us for ever.

3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from Gad the Father, and from the Lord Jefus Chrift, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy ebil ren walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment,

That, as ye have heard from the beginning ye fhould walk in it.

7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confefs not that Jefus Chrift is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrift.

8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not thofe things which we have wrought, but

that we receive a full reward.

9 Whofcever tranfgreffeth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Chrift, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into you houfe, neither bid him God speed:

For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and peak face to face, that our joy may be full.
