New York State Government. The Governor and Lieutenant-Governor are each elected for a term of two years. Each must be a citizen of the United States, 30 years of age, and must have been a resident of the State for five years preceding his election. The Supreme Court consists of 76 Justices. The State is divided into eight judicial districts and four judicial departments. The Appellate Division is composed of 22 Justices. The Court of Appeals consists of a Chief Justice and six Associate Justices, elected for a term of fourteen years. State Senators are elected for a term of two years, and members of the Assembly for one year each.
